Reporting to:  Engineering Manager

Direct Reports: Engineers / Fueller Shunters / Cleaners


Basic Purpose of Role

To support and deputise for the Engineering Manager to manage all aspects of engineering performance in the depot, including Health & Safety, fleet planning and environmental management, delivering excellent customer experience, while managing a governance agenda that supports legislative and policy compliance.

Engage front line colleagues though effective communication, active listening and recognition

The AEM will ensure that standard policies and procedures are adopted within the depot.

The AEM will ensure that the daily Run in/Run out process is supported with effective allocation of resources.

Key Accountabilities

Manage the depot engineering team in accordance with Rotala policies, standard operating procedures and all relevant legislation
Work with the Training function to ensure that engineering teams are competently trained, and to achieve agreed establishment requirements
Support the induction and development of an engaged, talented and high performing engineering team, nurturing an innovative and continuous improvement culture
Conduct any disciplinary, grievance or absence management reviews in accordance with Company policy
In line with standard policies and procedures, plan and manage the maintenance and servicing of the fleet, ensuring vehicles comply with all manufacturer and statutory regulations
Work alongside the Stores Person to ensure optimum management of stock, including accurate and timely processing of warranty claims and Stock Queries.
Maintain depot plant and equipment, ensuing all external contract maintenance is carried out in line with contractual agreements
Maintain accurate records for all aspects of engineering standards and performance, including fleet and environmental management
Perform regular audits to confirm compliance with legislative and company standards
Improve engineering and environmental performance in a sustainable manner, with a key focus on improving lost miles and breakdowns, resulting in delivery of agreed key performance indicators
Deliver agreed performance improvement plans and engineering costs within set budgets
Ensure an effective working relationship with recognised trade union representatives and officials
Ensure positive working relationships are maintained between operations and engineering functions to ensure a consistent customer experience
Other duties commensurate with the role as may be deemed appropriate by the line manager

Ensure that risk assessments are carried out for areas and activities under the role holder’s control, that appropriate control measures are implemented, and the recommendations are communicated to all of those who may be at risk
Report incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences in a timely manner and ensure effective remedial action is taken
Promote and implement, where appropriate, safe working practices by means of campaigns, initiatives and promote a positive attitude to safety through personal leadership
Support any Company environmental campaigns and be aware of Rotala’s environmental policy.
To encourage our engineers to drive more fuel efficiently.
To encourage our engineers to report leaks and spillages promptly
To ensure that waste is segregated appropriately to maximize recycling and that lighting and heating in the depot is used efficiently.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong Engineering background.
Knowledge of employment, Safety and Environmental legislation. a professional qualification would be desirable or equivalent company recognised qualification. Training must be undertaken, and requisite results achieved within agreed timeframes.
Engagement skills with motivational qualities as a prerequisite, perpetuating an environment of trust and confidence with your colleagues.
Strong people management abilities.
An ability to challenge employees through motivational engagement
Computer skills with essential organisational aptitude
Leadership skills are essential to provide day to day direction to your team
Ability in endorsing and supporting set long/short-term objectives
Mentoring/coaching skills in the progression of the deliverables of the business
Self-reliant and straightforward communicator with skill sets to promote the customer facing business, in a positive light with the capacity to inspire in a structured and encouraging way
The role will require the successful candidate to attend regular face to face review meetings, so a professional manner, can-do attitude and good communication skills are a must.
