Job Description

Are you ready to take your engineering expertise to the next level? The Oxford Bus Group (OBG) is on the hunt for a dynamic and visionary new Engineering Director to join our team. This pivotal role reports directly to the Managing Director and offers significant influence within the OBG board.

As the Engineering Director, you will lead a high performing engineering function, ensuring that the consistently high level of service continues. In addition, you will continue the management of the EV deployment programme of over 100 electric vehicles, ensuring their performance is optimised and that vehicles remain under warranty terms.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record within the transport sector for delivering key engineering targets and budgets. A Transport Manager Licence and International CPC qualifications are also a must, alongside a solid understanding of H&S principles and ISO / BSI accreditations.

As a positive and self-motivated leader, you will support the Engineering Managers and Supervisors to optimise their teams’ performance through coaching and performance management. Strong communication skills and experience working Trade Union colleagues are essential.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide clear and effective direction for the Engineering Department including formulating the capex plan with the board, to ensure the business continues to drive innovation and improvement.
  • Oversee annual budget preparation, ensuring targets are actionable, achievable, and motivational.
  • Proactively identify and drive improvement and innovation in the business.
  • Establish, develop and maintain positive business relationships critical to performance.
  • Deputise for the Managing Director where required.
