Purpose of Role

  • The main purpose of the role is to diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs, servicing and parts replacement in accordance with our standard operating procedures..

 

 

Role Accountabilities

  • Support the Engineering Manager / Chargehand with the running of the engineering function.
  • Maintain all vehicles to meet company Operators licence, Engineering policy and statutory law in respect of safety, reliability and condition through effective work, preventative maintenance and utilisation of facilities.
  • To monitor the driver and vehicle defect systems in order to implement prompt action to clear defects ensuring that no vehicle returns to service in an illegal or unsafe condition.
  • Implementation of all work programmes i.e., Servicing, Repairs, Road calls and modification programmes.
  • Ensure daily/ weekly /monthly targets are achieved as set by Management and all work is carried out to the Company standards.
  • To ensure company documentation is used correctly i.e. service sheets, clock cards, job cards etc.
  • To ensure all work is completed efficiently and effectively, updating your line manager on a regular basis of any issues that may arise.
  • Ensure that all records relating to vehicle maintenance, Health and Safety, COSHH, fire regulations, plant and equipment maintenance and inspections are kept up to date in accordance with the company procedures.
  • To ensure that the workshop / depot plant and equipment is in a safe condition and used only by competent personnel.
  • Work in accordance with Health and Safety and Environmental regulations and safety within the Depot and to ensure the Health and Safety of all employees, contractors and members of the public.
  • To deliver on the Company’s engineering targets for MOT’s, Servicing, EQM, etc.
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the Grade.
  • Attending on-road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries.
  • To act as line management to cleaning / fuelling staff when line manager not on site.
  • To carry out vehicle road testing when necessary to determine specific vehicle defects or following repair.

  • To Fuel buses when needed.

 

Line management

  • To act as line management to cleaning / fuelling staff when line manager not on site.

 

Special Working Conditions

  • To work on a shift rota basis as agreed with line manager which will involve 42  hours per week on a 5 over 7 rota.

  • To report to the Regional Director any injury, collision, dangerous occurrence or a near miss in which you were involved, or are aware of having taken place at your place of work, or any concern regarding any health or safety issue;
  • If you drive or operate machinery, to tell your employer if you take medication that makes you drowsy;
  • To report any injuries, strains or illnesses you suffer as a result of doing your job;
  • To report immediately any hazard, faulty equipment or health and safety concern and ensure action is taken to make the hazard safe;
  • To take part in any reasonable investigation into unsafe practices, when required. To assist in the investigation of any incident, event or near miss as part of an HSE enquiry.

 

Environmental Responsibilities

  • To comply with HCT Group Environmental Policy;
  • To ensure waste is segregated appropriately to maximize recycling;
  • To ensure energy is not wasted by switching off lights and office equipment when not needed; and
  • To report to the Regional Director any environmental incident or near miss in which you were involved, or are aware of having taken place at your place of work, or any concern regarding any environmental issue.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential criteria

  • Educated to City & Guilds level 3, NVQ Level 3 or higher preferably combined with a timed served apprenticeship in the passenger carrying vehicles environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, engineering processes, health and safety
  • Regulations, VOSA standards.
  • Good knowledge of bus sector legal requirements relating to vehicles.
  • Numerate and the Ability to communicate technical information in a detailed manner.
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Ability to work with colleagues in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to accurately diagnose and repair basic/complex vehicle faults.
