As we continue to invest in our people, our fleet and the future of sustainable public transport and due to an internal promotion, we are seeking an exceptional leader to join our senior team as Area Director for McGill’s Scotland West — the historic heart of our organisation.
This is a strategically important role with operational accountability for three depots, six managers, and over 600 colleagues. The Area Director will play a pivotal part in shaping cultural standards, operational excellence, financial performance and long‑term sustainability across the region.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a commercially astute, operationally strong and people‑focused leader who thrives in a dynamic, multi‑site environment. The successful candidate will combine strategic oversight with hands‑on pragmatism, demonstrating the confidence and credibility to influence at all levels.
You will join a business with significant ambition and the momentum to match it. As Area Director, you will have the platform, authority and support to leave a lasting legacy within one of the UK’s most established and forward‑thinking transport groups.
You Will Bring
- Substantial leadership experience at senior or executive level
- A demonstrable track record of managing large teams, complex operations and measurable performance improvement
- Deep operational or commercial understanding of the bus or wider transport sector
- The ability to think strategically while remaining highly effective at operational execution
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, with the capability to identify opportunities, manage cost pressures and drive sustainable efficiency
- Exceptional relationship‑building and influencing skills, with experience engaging diverse internal and external stakeholders
- A rigorous commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement
- Comprehensive knowledge of DVSA, HSE and other regulatory frameworks
- A CPC in Passenger Transport (Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence)
- A leadership mindset centred on accountability, development and delivering high standards consistently
