About me

I have over 20 years of successful Executive leadership and senior management experience, including holding Program Director and Asset Management director roles at Network Rail and subsequently leading, developing and mentoring a regional public transport business as MD through the fast changing environment brought about by the COVID pandemic and the intense recovery period that followed in the changed employment landscape. I have since built and run my own businesses, including a countryside holiday accommodation business on a smallholding in the North York Moors National Park and working as a Management Consultant and am now seeking a new challenge.

 

During my career, I have gained extensive Exec Leadership experience in holding positions such as MD, Operations Director, Engineering Director, Program Director and Safety & Asset Management Director within the Infrastructure asset management and public transport sectors. Businesses worked for include Network Rail, FirstGroup, National Express, NATS, and Arriva. I also have significant senior engineering management experience with Alstom Transport along with other positions in engineering and manufacturing businesses.

 

As well as leadership, I have transformation, team development, program and project delivery skills always with focus on defined Business Objectives, Safety and Financial outcomes. I have also delivered highly effective staff engagement and recruitment programs (such as experienced through COVID and the recovery from the pandemic) and have re-developed cross-functional teams including the associated business processes.

 

The key to success in any business is the development, engagement, structure, belief and buy in of the team and individuals within it. Businesses only perform if the people feel valued and are mentored, supported and led in the best way possible. All my success in former businesses has come from successfully developing teams and people at all levels within them, with many people since going on to subsequent successful careers.

 

My responsibilities have included annual turnovers of over £200m with 1200 staff members, plus contractors working on multiple sites, as well as holding budget responsibility for over £450m of annual CAPEX investment plus, delivery of P&L Financial performance, EH&S and colleague Engagement & Recruitment targets, plus Stakeholder engagement (including with Trade Unions, MPs, local authorities and trade bodies). Discipline areas include Asset Management, Maintenance, Operations, Commercial, Engineering, Central technical (systems engineering & maintenance planning), Planning, Purchasing, Audit/quality, Training, Program delivery. I have been able to demonstrate year on year improvements in quality, operational KPI’s and P&L delivery in each case.
