Key Responsibilities

You will join in this newly created role as a senior member of the bus reform leadership team with responsibility for the mobilisation and delivery of a high-profile portfolio of commercially-focused workstreams within South Yorkshire’s bus reform programme.  You will ensure the robust management and oversight of significant revenue budgets, acting as a visible and effective leader to ensure the delivery of bus reform in South Yorkshire, on time and on budget.

You will lead the approach to high value procurements and negotiations, setting out specifications, requirements and directing external advisors.  You will ensure that the customer voice is clearly heard in the future bus offer in South Yorkshire, role-modelling a commitment to engaging deeply with communities, transport operators and stakeholders across the region and beyond.  Key aspects of the future bus offer in South Yorkshire will be designed by you and the team you build including the approach to the future bus network, customer experience, contract performance, fares and ticketing.

The nature of the role means you will need to effectively manage stakeholder and supplier relationships, be accountable for strategic and technical advice to the board and the Mayor of South Yorkshire, collaborate with colleagues and build a strong consensus.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will have a strong track record in commercial management and leadership, a commitment to understanding and meeting customer expectations, and sound financial acumen.  You will have a rounded understanding of the priorities, opportunities and challenges faced by combined authorities and the private sector.  Experience of the transport sector is preferable but not essential.

You will have significant experience in effectively managing multi-million-pound budgets, commissioning services and leading in a commercial setting, demonstrating on-time delivery, continuous improvement and value for money.

You will need proven experience of successfully building, leading, managing, and motivating a team to achieve their maximum potential and creating healthy and high performing teams.  As such you will be a good communicator with the ability to lead, influence and challenge.
