  • Salary:                 £70,959 – £78,605 (pending pay award)
  • Location:             Sheffield (Hybrid Working or Onsite)

Please note that SYMCA follows a structured salary grading system for all roles, and the offered salary for each post will be at the starting point within the specified grade. Key Responsibilities

As Assistant Director of Transport Projects you will develop and lead the strategic objectives of a multi-disciplinary specialist team. You will be responsible for driving forward the development and delivery of strategic schemes across a complex and high-profile portfolio of multi-million pound major transport and infrastructure related projects of £500m+.
You will provide strategic advice to the Director and Leadership Team, demonstrating measurable progress against delivery targets. You’ll work on horizons of five year+ funding settlements with Transport Policy and Strategy colleagues to support the development of a pipeline of transport schemes, aligning funding from partners to add value to the portfolio outcomes.

In line with the objectives set in the corporate plan and the directorate business plan and will be responsible for shaping the delivery of your team’s objectives. You will proactively pre-empt emerging issues, manage and mitigate risks and maximise opportunities, leading business case development for transport schemes supporting good growth, through to Full Business Case and into delivery.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will have extensive knowledge of project and business case standards and delivery processes, with significant experience in managing multi-million-pound projects. A thorough understanding of governance in local government MCAs, coupled with sound financial and commercial awareness is essential.

You’ll have a proven ability to resolve complex problems, analyse and interpret complex information and present data to drive decision making at all levels within an organisation. You’ll also have extensive experience in development, negotiation and agreement of complex contractual agreements and arrangements with stakeholders and partners managing internal and external resources.

You will need exceptional communication skills with the proven ability to strongly lead, influence and challenge with experience of successfully leading and motivating teams to achieve their maximum potential.
