Job Description

At the Oxford Bus company, we believe in connecting people — to work, education, social life, and their communities. As a Commercial Data & Systems Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in making sure our customers have accurate, easy-to-access information about our services every day.

You’ll work across both office and on-vehicle systems, helping to keep timetables, ticketing, and journey information up to date across our apps, websites, ticket machines, destination displays, and on-board audio-visual announcements. By doing so, you’ll help our customers plan their journeys with confidence and ensure they enjoy a seamless travel experience.

This is a varied role, combining data management, IT systems, and hands-on work on vehicles. You’ll liaise with colleagues across planning, operations, engineering, and marketing teams, and you’ll have the chance to see the direct impact of your work on our customers’ day-to-day journeys.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain and update the data behind timetable and ticketing information across websites, apps, real time information systems and ticket machines.
  • Ensure customers can access accurate journey information at all times, including through the Government Bus Open Data portal.
  • Support the first line maintenance of on-vehicle systems, including Wi-Fi, audio-visual announcements, and destination displays.
  • Liaise with internal teams and third-party suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve system issues quickly.
  • Create and update destination display graphics for new routes.
  • Manage the deployment of advertisements and announcements across our fleet.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in system availability and customer experience.
  • Undertake other duties to support the smooth running of our customer information and on-board systems.

  • What We’re Looking for:
  • Confident with IT systems and data management, with the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
  • Flexible and adaptable, comfortable working both in an office and on vehicles.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive team player.
  • Willingness to learn — prior bus industry experience is helpful, but not essential.
  • Full manual driving licence.

  • What we can offer you!
  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience).
  • Two free bus travel passes valid across our operators.
  • Pension scheme, lifestyle benefits, and Employee Assistance Programme.
  • 25 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays.
  • Career development opportunities within Oxford Bus Group and the wider Go-Ahead Group.

  • Our Recruitment Process

We want to make sure you have every opportunity to shine and to learn more about us too. Our process includes:

  1. Initial chat – A friendly conversation with our Recruitment Team to discuss your experience and tell you more about the role and Oxford Bus Group.
  2. Interview – An interview featuring competency- and values-based questions designed to understand your skills, creativity, and alignment with our company values as well as a short Excel test!

We’ll keep you informed at each stage, and we’re always happy to answer questions along the way.

At Oxford Bus Group, we’re committed to diversity and inclusion, and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Join us and make a real impact—help tell the story of our brands while keeping our communities connected!
