Operations Manager

Stephensons of Essex are in search of a suitably experienced industry professional to join their dedicated and friendly team as Operations Manager.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will take charge of all aspects of operational performance across an operating area covering Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

The role offers significant authority, and you will be expected to play a key role in helping shape the future of this dynamic, successful and well-regarded employee-owned company.

About You

You will have significant experience in the operational aspects of the bus industry as well as proven skills in leadership and management.

You must be self-motivated and able to work collaboratively within a friendly, independent company environment.

You must be dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of operational performance are reached consistently across an operating area covering three counties.

About us

Stephensons of Essex is the largest independent bus operator in East Anglia with depots in Boreham, Rochford, Braintree, Maldon, Frating and Haverhill.

Our operating area covers Essex, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.

The group includes the operations of NIBSbuses, based in Wickford near Basildon.

We are an independent company with nearly 200 staff and fleet of 130 modern buses, owned by an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

Our day-to-day work includes a range of commercial and tendered local bus services as well as school bus services operated on mix of commercial and contracted basis.

Key responsibilities

Oversee operations across 7 depots.

Manage all aspects of service delivery including lost mileage, punctuality and ensuring quality customer service standards.

Take responsibility for operational cost management, controlling payroll costs and implementing strategies to maintain a low level of collisions and other on-road incidents.

To oversee recruitment, retention, and training and development of operational staff.

Consistently promote a culture of high standards of safety, ensuring compliance with company policy, industry best practice and the obligations of external and regulatory bodies.
